Dr. Narayana Sabhahit was born on 4th November, 1962 in Idagunji Village, North Kanara District of Karnataka State.
Dr Sabhahit obtained his B. E. Degree in Civil Engineering from National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore in
1985; M Tech (1988) and Ph D (1994) in Geotechnical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
Dr. Sabhahit was the Joint Director of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal for a period of one year,
from May 2008 to May 2009. Prior to that, he was Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at MIT Manipal
for a period of four years from April 2004 to April 2008. During his tenure as Head of the Department, he
started two PG programs, namely M Tech in Space Engineering and M Tech in Geoinformatics. He was officer
in-charge of Academic Section at MIT Manipal, during the year, 2002-03. He has 21 years of teaching experience
and has taught variety of courses like Optimum Design of Structures, Systems Engineering, Advanced Foundation
Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering etc. Apart from academic activities, he has actively |

involved in curriculum development for UG and PG programmes, implementation of ISO certification warden for MIT Hostels etc. He has vast experience of consultancy in Geotechnical Engineering.
Dr. Sabhahit visited Saga University, Japan in the year 1992 as a research scholar. His areas of interest include, ground improvement techniques, optimum design of structures, earth reinforcement and stability of slopes. He has published more than 20 technical papers in reputed international journals and conferences. He is the recipient of prestigious Prof. Leonards award for best doctoral thesis submitted to Indian Univ./Inst. during the year 1995. He has guided more than 10 M Tech students and is guiding one Ph D student. His paper entitled “Seismic Design of Semi-Gravity Reinforced Earth Wall” was awarded the best paper during the Indian Geotechnical Conference, held at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during December. 2008. He was bestowed incentive award for faculty research and scientific publication, instituted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education during the year 2002-03.
Prof. Sabhahit is a reviewer for Indian Geotechnical Journal. He has delivered invited lectures in seminars, short term courses and workshops. He is a life member of various professional societies like Indian Geotechnical Society, Indian Society for Technical Education, Institution of Engineers (IE) and Fellow of Indian Association of Structural Engineering.
